£480.00

Dan Kelly (born 1953); a cylindrical stoneware vessel covered in black glaze with indentations picked out in white, height 18cm.

Dan Kelly began his ceramic training at the Camberwell School of Arts and Crafts, where he was strongly influenced by Colin Pearson, particularly in developing his skills on the potter’s wheel.

He later pursued postgraduate studies at the Royal College of Art, completing his degree in 1979. Following this, Kelly continued to produce ceramics while also working in various technical roles. In 1988, he was appointed Artist in Residence at Christ’s Hospital School, eventually taking on a teaching role. He now teaches across multiple degree programs, including courses at the City Lit Institute.

Kelly's ceramic work is primarily wheel-thrown stoneware, which he alters through cutting and hand-shaping. His aesthetic is characterized by minimalist brushwork using dark metallic oxides, while his white porcelain pieces are often left unadorned externally, with the focus on dark-glazed interiors.Dan Kelly began his ceramic training at the Camberwell School of Arts and Crafts, where he was strongly influenced by Colin Pearson, particularly in developing his skills on the potter’s wheel.
