Female Portrait, by Uno Svensson

£640.00

Female Portrait, oil on unstretched canvas, signed by Uno Svensson.

Uno Svensson was a Swedish Postwar & Contemporary artist. He was born in Kallinge, Sweden, in 1929. He grew up in a musical and reliious home. As a child he was drawing a lot and copied Gustave Doré's bible illustrations, fascinating pictures for generations of children. Uno Svensson’s apocalyptic theme forms an epic chronicle from the recent chapters. His paintings have a kind of mysterous beauty. Green is totally missing in them.

He has lived and worked most of his lifetime in Malmo, Paris and Nice. In 1949 he an his brother had made a journey by train through a Europe destroyed by bombs and only fragmentarily rebuilt, a trip that left lasting impressions. In the long row of big industrial cities in ruins he met in a very concrete and sturdy way the destructive human madness which in different variations has been a fundamental theme in his art.

He has done one man exhibtions and took part in group exhibitions in more than 20 countries.
