Carved and glazed, the back is signed by Claude Vayssier, the decorator. The front edge is complemented by a brown and cream pattern with repeating squiggly lines.
Claude Vayssier was a decorator at Cerenne from 1952 to 1953. Created by Charles René Neveux, the Cerenne workshop, active from 1945 - 1958, takes its name from its company name "Céramique René Neveux". At the height of its renown, the workshop was one of the most important in Vallauris, employing around fifty people, including 15 decorators. Its production ranged from utilitarian ceramics to unique pieces with special custom orders for French and international customers. Cerenne also created pieces of furniture with ceramic decoration. Pieces signed by René Neveux himself are relatively rare.
