Ingrid Seddig, "Menschengruppe", stoneware sculpture c. 1960/70

Ingrid Seddig, 1926 Vietkow - 2008 Leutenbach-Nellmersbach, German sculptor, here: Group of 8 larger and smaller people, probably a choir, hard-fired stoneware sculpture with ash-grey glaze, 30 x 26 cm, inscribed inside.

In the 1950s, Ingrid Seddig attended the sculpture school in Biedenkopf, where Paul Wedepohl supported her. At his suggestion, she went to study with Giacomo Manzù at the Salzburg Summer Academy in 1954. Already during this study visit, she developed a figurative programme from classical nude studies, which formed the basis for her work as a whole. Manzù particularly influenced her relationship to sculptural expression. Always adhering to the symbolic reduction of modernism, her style soon found favour with the clients of the Protestant church, for whom Ingrid Seddig created numerous choir room decorations.
