£950.00

Large relief of plaster 'Mountains, trees and people', Denmark, second half of the 20th century. Very trendy, great scale.

Niels Mandrup Bruun was a Danish painter, draughtsman and graphic artist born in Ribe and a student from Ribe Katedralskole in 1938. He later joined the resistance movement, which led him to flee to Sweden in 1944, where he lived for a period in Uppsala with the painter and sculptor Bror Hjorth. He mediated a contact to the Stockholm Academy of Fine Arts, where Niels Bruun was admitted as a student under Professor Sven Erixson.
After the war Niels Bruun was able to return to Denmark where he was admitted to the Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen.

Bruun studied under Aksel Jørgensen, Elof Risebye and Vilhelm Lundstrøm, and where Aksel Jørgensen in particular gained importance for his artistic work. He painted in an expressionist idiom often entwined some abstraction. Part of his production shows motifs from his native Ribe and the marshland he was strongly inspired by.

His work is represented at the Ribe Kunstmuseum.
