Small stoneware and porcelain pod sculpture, by Joy Trpkovic
A black stoneware and white porcelain pod form, by Joy Trpkovic (B.1950)
Joy Trpkovic is a ceramic artist specialising in hand-built porcelain. Her delicate, translucent sculptures are inspired by marine life, fossils, and fungi, capturing the subtle rhythms and textures of the natural world.
Each piece is meticulously shaped by hand, embracing the challenge of firing fragile structures, and finished with hand-painted precious metal lustres that create a layered, ethereal effect reminiscent of watercolour, a nod to her background in painting.
She is a Fellow of the Society of Designer Craftsmen (FSDC) and a six-time finalist at the Museu de Ceràmica de l'Alcora’s international competition in Spain, winning second prize twice.
Her work has been exhibited at the British Council in New Delhi and with the VAN GOGH Gallery in Madrid, Milan, and Monaco, and is held in public collections including the Southampton City Art Gallery and the Leicester County Council.
